Birth & Family Education Classes

Birthing Classes

SCRMC offers a variety of Birth and Family Education classes. Our Certified Childbirth Educator along with our Labor and Delivery staff promote the well-being of families as they create their own birth miracle.

Expectant Parents

This class is ideal for parents during the last three months of pregnancy. Participants will leave with an increased confidence in the birth process and their ability to care for their newborn when they get home.

In this class you will learn about the stages of labor, tour The Birth Place, have hands-on learning with breathing, relaxation, and pain medications for labor and delivery. You will also learn about adjusting to life with a baby in the house, breastfeeding and infant feeding from birth to six months, normal newborn behaviors, stages of development, bathing and diapering your baby, safe infant sleep, car seat safety, CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver, and basic infant care from birth to 12 months.

The instructor is a Certified Childbirth Educator (CCE), International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), CPR Instructor and busy mom.

Each four-week series is on Monday evenings unless otherwise indicated. The classes are located in the Riverbend Conference Center at SCRMC. Private and semi-private classes are available upon request.

All classes are FREE but registration is required. Please call (800) 828-3627 to register.

I’m a Big Brother / Big Sister!

While at the “birthday party” we will tour The Birth Place and listen to your baby’s heartbeat, find out what mommy and daddy will be doing at the hospital, have story time with books that teach newborn care and encourage your 2 to 6 year old(s) as they prepare for their sibling. Each child receives a t-shirt.

The class is Tuesday afternoons at The Birth Place lounge at SCRMC.

Parties are FREE but registration is required. Please call (800) 828-3627 to register.

Baby & Me

Baby & Me is a play and discussion hour for infants and their parents. Babies can observe, interact and explore with other babies while parents connect with other moms and dads. Parents also have the chance to discuss their questions and concerns with a Family Resource Center parent educator and participate in a parenting discussion with other parents.

The group meets Fridays from 10-11 a.m. in the Glacier Room.
