St. Croix Regional Medical Center is welcoming the newest member of its medical staff, ophthalmologist Dr. William Crane, DO.
"We're pleased to announce that on Wednesday, January 20, Dr. Crane will begin providing full-time ophthalmology care for our
community, including comprehensive (general) ophthalmology, complete eye examinations, diagnosis, and treatment and surgery
of the eyes and visual system," said Medical Center CEO, Dave Dobosenski.
Dr. Crane will see patients and be available for professional consultations five days a week. Appointment times will also be
left open in Dr. Crane's schedule each day for urgent or emergent eye care needs, and patients will not need a referral to
see this specialist.
Dr. Crane's areas of particular interest/expertise include cataract surgery; treatment of glaucoma; diabetic retinopathy;
macular degeneration; retinal diseases; oculoplastic lid surgery; pediatric eye examination, diagnosis and treatment,
eye muscle surgery, laser eye surgery.
Dr. Crane became interested in ophthalmology when he answered an ad in the Boston Globe in 1984, and as a result, began working
at Harvard Medical School for one the world's experts on retinitis pigmentosa. He moved on to the Des Moines University Medical
School in 1987, and then trained at several outstanding institutions: State University of New York at Albany, Dutchess Community
College, SUNY, Doctor of Osteopathy, Des Moines University, Des Moines, Iowa, Residency, University of Missouri Eye Foundation
of Kansas City, Fellowship, Center for Retinal/Macular Diseases, Eye Foundation of Kansas City. Dr. Crane's professional
experience includes: Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery and Chief, Division of Ophthalmology, Lake Erie College of
Osteopathic Medicine, Erie PA; Medical Director, Vision and Blindness Resources Center; Clinical Instructor, SUNY, Upstate
School of Medicine and the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, Eye Foundation of Kansas City; and Clinical
Research Assistant, MA Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard School of Medicine.
Dr. Crane noted that he was drawn to SCRMC because he sees it as a "growing institution with an excellent reputation." He also
appreciates that the medical staff is dominated by family practitioners. "As an osteopathic physician, I know the value of this
patient care model."
