Dr. Allison Karun, Ob/Gyn, joins medical staff Dr. Allison Karun, a full-time Obstetrics/Gynecology specialist, comes to St. Croix Regional Medical Center's medical staff from Rapid City, South Dakota, where she had been a member of the Rushmore Clinic. Karun chose Ob/Gyn medicine because she wanted to help women better handle the various problems and challenges they face. "While assisting women with their physical health needs is certainly important," she explained, "helping them cope with the emotional and psychological challenges they face, not to mention the difficulties of pregnancy and the many ways it can affect them as mothers, wives and working professionals, is also essential." Karun also chose the field of obstetrics and gynecology "to be a part of the miracle and wonder that is childbirth. Being a woman and a mother, too, I feel truly privileged and humbled to be a part of my patient's lives, and to share in their joys of pregnancy and childbirth." Though Karun had the opportunity to choose other medical centers, she chose SCRMC "because it's clear that they work very hard to give excellent patient care, and that's very important to me as a physician." Karun chose St. Croix Falls as a place to live and practice medicine for many of the same reasons others call this area home. "My husband and I fell in love with the small town atmosphere, the beautiful and scenic surroundings, and the high quality of living that the St. Croix Falls area provides," she explained. "We wanted to be part of a small and caring community that looks out for its neighbors and is a great place to raise children (she has two daughters, ages one and five), and I believe we have found just that in St. Croix Falls."
