St. Croix Valley Health Care Foundation

MISSION

The St. Croix Valley Health Care Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to conduct charitable, educational, scientific, and fundraising activities to promote quality health care in the St. Croix Valley. Its activities focus on health care, community service, and education.

Through its financial gifts, St. Croix Valley Health Care Foundation stands as a staunch supporter of our communities’ health care organizations. Contributions

are invested prudently, ensuring that income earned from them will be used to give health care professionals at St. Croix Regional Medical Center the tools they need to continue providing excellent care. Current income also funds purchases of health care equipment for the Medical Center.

FOUNDATION MARKS SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS TO SCRMC

Steve McCormack, Treasurer of the St. Croix Valley Health Care Foundation recently presented a check for $67,000 to Lenny Libis, CEO of St. Croix Regional Medical Center. The Medical Center is using the funds for the purchase of patient care equipment. An additional $15,166 was raised this year at the Seventh Annual SCRMC Golf Classic, and this money was earmarked for the purchase of a DEXAscasn, used for bone density screening.

ST. CROIX VALLEY HEALTH CARE FOUNDATION MARKS 25TH ANNIVERSARY
This is a special anniversary year for the Foundation as it was established 25 years ago. As you may know, the Foundation is a non-profit organization supported by contributions from individuals like you. Your membership and contributions support the work of the Foundation and St. Croix Regional Medical Center (SCRMC) in many ways, including:

Providing scholarships to encourage young students and adults to pursue careers in health care;
Purchasing vital technology that improves the care we are able to give patients; Assisting with physical improvements to the facility (new equipment for the surgery center now under construction); and
Providing general information to address health care issues via our newsletter.

I wish I could speak to each of you personally about the important work that has been done over the past 25 years by our Foundation. Through the years, we have been committed to supporting the health of our community. It is always challenging in a letter to show the extent of our enthusiasm and dedication to our mission. We are all very fortunate to have such an outstanding medical center just minutes from our homes or cabins. Membership dues and gifts help us continue to provide the exceptional care our patients deserve.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
For many years, the Foundation has provided scholarship assistance to individuals from our communities who are entering or are furthering their education in a health care field. Each year, a percentage of Foundation funds are earmarked to the Scholarship Award Program. Many past scholarship recipients now are putting their education and experience to work here in our community. This year, six individuals shared $3,000 in scholarship awards.

MAJOR FUNDRAISING EVENTS

FALL GALA FUNDRAISER DINNER
Music. A champagne reception. Fine company. Exciting grab-bag envelopes. Camaraderie. Raffles. Silent and live auctions. Great food. All this and more have brought together supporters of the Foundation’s work each fall for the past seven years. Individuals and businesses generously donate all items sold through the auctions and raffles, and even vacations to such locations as Chicago, or to Alaska via cruise ship.

Funds raised last year were used for several important equipment purchases for the Medical Center. For example, thanks to equipment purchased with a $13,110 donation from the Foundation, patients with serious ear problems requiring more involved care, including Tympanoplasty (surgery on the eardrum or middle ear) can now be treated at the Medical Center. Patients needing this surgery no longer have to travel to a Twin Cities hospital.

Health Care Advocate award: Another very special annual event takes place at the Gala Fundraising Dinner—naming the winner of the Foundation’s Health Care Advocate Award. Each year, a Foundation committee chooses an individual from our community whom they believe has made a significant
contribution to the health care of the community.

Congratulations to the new winner of the trip to Puerto Vallerta, Sue Meyers and husband Dan!

ANNUAL ST. CROIX REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER GOLF CLASSIC

7th Annual SCRMC Golf Classic Raises $15,166 to purchase DEXAscan
RiverBank Insurance Center’s John Gauper presented proceeds from the Seventh Annual Golf Classic—a check for $15,166 to St. Croix Regional Medical Center‘s CEO, Lenny Libis, as others look on. “We were very excited that this year’s golf classic on June 15 filled quickly. Registrations surpassed our expectations, confirming that this tournament is a significant area event. The Golf Classic greatly benefits patients throughout the service area of the Medical Center, and we’re pleased to be the sponsor.”

Sandy Williams, SCRMC Director of Development and Marketing, expressed her gratitude on behalf of the Medical Center to Gauper and his staff, for their outstanding support and hard work. Over the past seven years, this event has generate over $88,000 for patient care equipment. “We also want to thank the Frederic Golf Course staff and their Board members for providing wonderful service and a course in excellent condition,” said Williams.

Williams made a point of acknowledging all the corporate and hole sponsors and team players who contributed to this fundraiser. “Without their generous support, too,” said Williams, “the tremendous success we’ve achieved again this year simply wouldn’t have been possible. We’re very proud, too, to mark our seventh year with this event. Everyone appeared to enjoy the day and especially the prime rib dinner catered by Beth LeMieux. Williams went on to point out that the real winners here “are all the people in our community and their families who use the Medical Center. The funds we raised will purchase a DEXAscan used for bone density screening. This equipment is very important for our patients.”

Sponsored by The Riverbank Insurance Center in partnership with the St. Croix Valley Healthcare Foundation, the Classic offers a morning 9-hole scramble and an afternoon 18-hole tournament. The entry fee provides golf cart rental, complimentary use of the driving range, awards, and lunch or a prime rib dinner. Both tournament events include numerous course games and hole-in-one contests to win cars, courtesy of Larsen Auto and Johnson Motors.

Your Health Care Foundation uses Unrestricted Gifts to assist the Medical Center in funding a variety of projects, including medical equipment and scholarships for students in the health care field. Remember, your cash contributions are deductible for state and federal income taxes.

Gifts of Securities
Transfer securities to the Health Care Foundation and you will receive a charitable deduction equal to the fair market value of those securities. You pay no capital gains tax, and if the Foundation elects to sell these securities, it also will pay no capital gains tax.

Help yourself while helping others
If you want to explore other ways to contribute, gifts of appreciated property, for example, can help you avoid costly capital gains for heirs. We encourage you and your financial advisors to visit with a Foundation representative who can discuss options.
