SCRMC Volunteer Partnerss
The St. Croix Regional Medical Center Volunteer Partners has contributed financial support to the Medical Center for nearly half a century. Since 1984, they have awarded more than 124 scholarships totaling over $63,000 to those entering a medicine-related field, and they have generously contributed numerous dollars for patient care equipment. In 2002, for example, donations to the Medical Center and to a scholarship program for those entering a medicine-related field of study totaled more than $72,000 (including $55,000 for the Emergency/Trauma Care Unit). Volunteer Partners raise money in many ways, most notably through proceeds from the Gift Shop, their annual Salad Luncheon, Bake, and Book Sale, and the Love Light Ceremony. To join Volunteer Partners, call Kathy Lucken at 715-483-1061.

Many people want to feel they have made a difference
to others, yet often find it very difficult to accomplish
this goal in their day-to-day lives. Whether working
as a floor volunteer, baker, driver, or by relieving
the burden of office personnel by filing, stapling or
carrying out other tasks, St. Croix Regional Medical
Center volunteers make a difference to people who truly
appreciate their efforts by giving their time in a wide
range of activities.
Floor Volunteer . . .
An Information Desk Volunteer helps patients and visitors find their
way in the Medical Center. In addition, they assist
staff with small tasks such as delivering paperwork
to departments, distribute mail and flowers to patients,
and otherwise helping where needed.
Special Patient Volunteers
. . .
The Medical Center has numerous items available for
entertainment, such as CD & tape players, reading
materials, games and other items. These volunteers visit
room to room, offering patients or family members the
opportunity to listen to music, read a book (or have
it read to them), or play a game. By providing patients
the choice of music or activities in their rooms, they
provide a measure of comfort and diversion for patients
and family members.
Baker Volunteer. . .
The Medical Center has a small kitchen that is stocked
with ingredients for baking cookies, bars, and bread.
Volunteer Bakers can prepare the treats of their choice – either from scratch or from mixes. After they
are baked, volunteers offer them to visitors and family
members in waiting lounges and to appropriate patients.
Nothing brings a smile like the smell of warm cookies! Floor Volunteer. . .
The Floor Volunteer collects and sorts mail, assists departments and offers nutritional snacks to patients.
Gift Shop Volunteers . .
.
Volunteers are needed to work in the Gift Shop, which
is operated by the Auxiliary. Work includes retail sales,
stocking and purchasing.
Driver Volunteers . . .
These volunteers use their own vehicles to move documents,
supplies, or specimens between the Medical Center and
other facilities or vendors. Drivers are paid the current
Federal Mileage rate and must provide their own insurance
coverage.
Clerical/Support Volunteers
. . .
Many departments, such as Administration, Behavioral
Health, Business Office, Diagnostic Imaging, Education,
Health Information, Human Resources, Obstetrics, and
Med/Surg may have a need for additional clerical or
other help during peak activity periods. This work can
include typing, filing, photocopying, collating, delivering
documents, and so forth.
Community Service Student Mentorship
Secondary level students seeking further educational
experiences in healthcare or related fields may choose
to work closely with specific departments or staff members
on a volunteer basis. Individualized learning experiences
can be explored. Depending on the requirements of the
school, it may be possible to accrue academic credits.
