“Neurologists are extremely selective about using Botox®,” Dr. Bedi noted, “because it is a very powerful neurotoxin. When treating people with migraines, for example, injections are made in specific muscles in the forehead, scalp and neck only to help ‘relax’ them.” Dr. Bedi points out that Botox® also blocks the release of chemicals that are involved in sending nerve messages associated with the production of pain. The treatment is typically effective for three months depending on the individual patient.
Some of Dr. Bedi’s patients had been taking five, six, and even seven medications for their headaches without feeling relief. “While researchers don’t completely understand what’s happening here,” Dr. Bedi pointed out, “Botox® reduced the severity and frequency of their migraines by at least half–and for as long as three months.”
Dr. Bedi is dedicated to the creation of a Center for Neurological Excellence--St. Croix Neurology, which manages widely prevalent neurological disorders, carpal tunnel syndrome, spine disorders, headaches and other neuropathies, sieizures, Multiple Sclerosis, dementia, Parkinson's disease and stroke. The Center aims to bring new and diagnostic and therapeutic approaches such as Electromyography (EG), Botox®, and Qutenza® to the St. Croix valley.
