SCRMC Physical Rehab is joining the ADRC of NW Wisconsin to offer a Stepping On Workshop series beginning Wednesday, June 19 from 9:30-11:30 AM at SCRMC at the Unity Clinic in Balsam Lake, WI.
Stepping On is a seven-week workshop program (2 hour weekly sessions) for independent older adults who have fallen, are at risk of falling
, or who have a fear of falling. One in three adults age 65 and over fall each year and the physical, financial and emotional costs can be devastating. But falls are not a normal part of the aging process and can be prevented.
During the workshop, participants receive support from trained leaders and local guest experts, learn and practice strength and balance exercises and learn how medications, vision, safe footwear and home modifications can affect their risk of falls. The goal is to help people better manage their own risk of falls and take steps on their own to prevent falls.
“Participants also benefit from meeting other people with similar concerns, learning about the steps they can take to reduce their risk of falls and benefit from each other’s experiences,” said Marsha Stoeberl, Stepping On Leader.
Stepping On is specifically for:
• Age 65 or older
• Had a fall in the past year or have a fear of falling
• Live in your own home or apartment (not an assisted living facility or nursing home)
• Do not have dementia
• Does not use a wheelchair or walker full-time in your home (Okay if you use a cane)
Workshop will be every Wednesday, beginning June 19 and ending on July 31. Cost is $10 per person OR $15 per couple if both wish to participate.
