National Trails Day links Wisconsin’s Ice Age Trail with communities nationwide and Wannigan Days bring out the locals for home-grown festival fun. St. Croix Falls’ unique city-limit trails are primed for some quality trail competition with a 5K road race, the ever-growing 10K trail run, and 1K Trail Run for kids.
All races start at St. Croix Falls Middle School with the 1K Kids Trail Run for ages 5-12 at 8:30 AM. The City of Trails 5K and spectacular 10K Trail Run follow at 9:00 AM with a simultaneous start. All race courses follow wooded paths along segments of the Ice Age trails. The finish is at the scenic Overlook Deck in downtown St. Croix Falls via Gaylord Nelson Riverwalk along the St. Croix River. The short, sweet and free of charge Lil’ Hiker Hustle for 2-4 year olds will begin immediately after the conclusion of the 5K and 10K runs.
“The Ice Age Trail is the star of this show,” says race director Amy Klein. “The race is just a really great way to experience segments of this tremendous asset right in the heart of St. Croix Falls. This trail run has something for every age and ability. The 5K and 10K courses are ideal for a first time or seasoned racer. Lately, the 10K Trail Run has brought in some very talented athletes!”
Discounted race fee of $10 is extended for groups of youth runners and veterans of American military service. For the youth group discount, sign up on-line by entering your group’s name. Veteran runners may take advantage of the discount by presenting a personal military ID at the race day registration or packet pick-up on June 12, 2015.
The annual “team challenge” spotlights participants of local businesses, organizations, families and friends, to step forward for a chance to win the Golden Boot. Prizes will be awarded in two categories: the fastest team (top 3 combined times) and the “largest team” (most participants.) Individual prizes will be awarded for overall male and female winners and age divisions up to age 60+.
